Smoothie bowls have been a bit of a mystery to me for a little while. I just didn’t see the point of serving a smoothie in a bowl when you could drink it through a straw. That is, until I tried it the other day.

And now I’m totally convinced.

OK, what’s the point of serving a smoothie in a bowl? It’s all about the toppings. You can add crunch and the toppings slowly sink to the bottom of the bowl and every mouthful is different. It’s like a new and improved bowl of cereal where the smoothie replaces the milk and it’s awesome. If you too have been a little skeptical about smoothie bowls, trust me and give it a go!

  • 100g frozen berries – I use 1/3 blueberries and 2/3 raspberries
  • 1 banana
  • 100ml soy milk
  • 1 dessert spoon peanut butter

For the topping: granola, 1/2 a banana, toasted chopped almonds, rasberries & blueberries and chia seeds

Blend all ingredients together well and serve in a bowl with a selection of toppings on top.

Raspberry smoothie bowlAfter I took these photos I had a taste and actually got the packet of granola back out of the cupboard and absolutely smothered the smoothie with granola. It was great.
