DIY sharpie mugs1

This is probably the easiest DIY post ever. We had two plain cheap white mugs (these are Coop Prix Garantie) sitting in the cupboard looking a bit boring so after being inspired by this post and a number of pins I’ve seen on Pinterest, I thought I’d jazz them up a bit with a permanent marker.

All you need is a permanent market (any will do – preferably with a thin tip) and as many plain white mugs as you like. Sketch a design out on paper. Try it out on the mug – if you don’t like it you can scrub it off and try again and again as long as you don’t leave it too long. Once you have a design you like, bake them at 180°C for 30 minutes. Be careful not to smudge the ink as you put them in the oven. When time is up just turn the oven off and leave them until they have cooled down. Hand wash only – the writing won’t hold up in the dishwasher.

*Update* if you can get your hands on a porcelain marker I would use that – I used a standard permanent marker and it hasn’t help up as well as I’d hoped.

I think these would make a lovely gift – you could put an inside joke on them. I also thought about putting a mustache and lips on them to make his & her mugs. What would you write on yours? xS
