Sofia Clara - breakfast smoothie

This is the perfect breakfast drink for all of you out there looking for an alternative to coffee to give you that early morning kick.

Almond butter and maca powder are two of my newly discovered smoothie ingredients. Maca root powder is from a tuberous Peruvian vegetable rich in amino acids, vitamins B, C and E and enzymes. It is supposed to help balance hormones and mood, increase energy and stamina and keep your skin clear and who couldn’t do with a little of all of those things? And almond butter is pure yum, and a great source of fiber and protein.

Blend them together with a banana, strawberries and any sort of milk and you get this delicious pink smoothie.

My freezer is probably as small as it gets so I never seem to have ice in my freezer. In order to make sure the smoothie is as cold as possible, I like to keep all these ingredients in the fridge (except the maca powder).

Ingredients: 6-8 strawberries, 1 ripe banana, 125ml milk (regular, rice, almond or soy all work), 1 tablespoon almond butter and 1/2 teaspoon maca powder. Method: place all ingredients in a food mixer, blend and serve.
