A PEEK AT MY WEEK NO. 21: MEET THE AMAZING WOMEN I WORK WITH

This is quite an exciting post to be writing because today is the day that I can finally reveal the brand new version of my blog! You will have to excuse me if there is a slight lack of authentic enthusiasm coming across in my writing – it is currently midnight the night before launch and Steph and I have been glued to our computer screens for about 14 hours getting things ready but launch day is today and I am actually so excited to show you around. Don’t worry, we did take a break to pop out to the market to get supplies including pain au raisins andΒ empanadas as fuel.

My new partner in crime/colleague, Steph, (I can’t tell you how much I love being able to say that) and I have been working hard with Magda and her lovely team at MinthicalΒ to get this done over the last few weeks. The guys at Minthical have been such a dream to work with and I’m so thrilled with how it has turned out.

The goal was to build a website that’s easier to navigate and that feels a bit more uniform. Aside from design changes, we’ve streamlined the categories down to four simple categories: Recipes, DIY, Beauty and Life and added a shop so it’s easier to find the things I’m talking about. There’s an FAQ section on the About me page with answers to the questions I get asked the most including how I actually manage to pay my rent with this strange career path that I’m following. Mum, that one’s for you :).

Aside from telling you about the launch and sharing my excitement, I wanted to give a huge shoutout to the wonderful women with whom I have the pleasure of working because, I’m not going to sugar coat it, working independently is hard work and it’s often pretty lonely work. These three women keep me sane and inspire me every day.

Let me start with an introduction to Magda, co-founder at Minthical. Magda and I were actually in the same year at university but only really bonded over our love for blogs, quirky fashion and vintage furniture after we graduated. She’s the one I always turn to in moments of doubt and she reassures me that I’m on the right path, or lovingly puts me back on the right path.

In my eyes, Minthical specialise in storytelling and finding ways to bring whatever story you want to tell to life. They do branding, social media support and web design. I first worked with them to develop my business cards which must have been about 2-3 years ago now and we’ve worked together steadily ever since. They’re always around to help and just get things done. Plus, you always get the warmest welcome when you arrive in the Minthical offices including a whooole tea pot full of tea. They sure know the way to my heart. I highly recommend them to everyone who comes my way asking for someone who could help with anything from a logo to a full custom made website. A big thank you to the Minthical team for the amazing work on this new launch of the website!

Magda is a strong minded, no-bullshit business woman with the kindest bright blue eyes. She replies to emails before you even think they’ve left your inbox (which if you’ve ever tried to send me an email, you’ll know is a skill I certainly don’t have) and is always up for a drink after a long days work.

Next up is Hannah who you all know as she takes most of the photos of me on my blog. Hannah and I have been working together for almost 3 years and we actually met through Instagram. I emailed her randomly asking if she’d like to go for a coffee, we met up on a Friday 13th and that was the beginning of our friendship.

Hannah is a Lausanne-based lifestyle photographer specialised in family photography. We share the same vision of what lifestyle photography is – she takes great photos and does very minimal editing so the photo is as close to reality as possible. I love that.

Ooh and how could I forget – that’s her little one sitting on her lap who is also with us when we’re taking photos or eating celebratory birthday cupcakes at Cuppin’s. She’s a true power working mum and even used to carry him in a carrier while she worked. Seriously impressive.

And last but certainly not least, I want to introduce you to Steph. Steph is the first person to really join my “team” this spring. Well, she made this a “team” as previously it was just lil ol’ me but booooy do we have big plans already.

I had been drowning in work for a little too long and was thinking about hiring an intern. On the same exact day that I decided against hiring an intern and decided that I wanted to hire someone more experienced, Steph’s email landed in my inbox. We had three initial meetings, bonded immediately over our love of a good cuppa and how we’re both “pen and paper” kind of girls, and have had some great brainstorming sessions.

Steph is crazily organised, has lots of corporate experience, has super structured thoughts (I didn’t even know that was a thing) and when I can easily get caught up in the day dreaming, Steph is all about a good plan. I’m excited about where this is going to go!

I feel incredibly lucky that these three women have just sort of stumbled into my life to inspire me, motivate me, ease the work load and fill so many of the gaps in my knowledge and skillset. In each of these scenarios, the answer to a problem just kind of fell into my lap – an email from Steph, a catch-up coffee with Magda and a random scroll on Instagram to find Hannah. I’m not one to regurgitate a quote often but perhaps good old Pablo was right and when you want something, the universe does conspire to help you achieve it.

I’m so convinced that just simply pin-pointing what it is that you do want, or what it is that you are looking for, allows you be open to it and sometimes (just sometimes) you almost don’t need to do anything more than that to get it.

Another big lesson I have learnt from this experience, it is to hire people with talent – work with and support other freelancers or company owners who do things better than you do. If you can’t (or don’t want to be) tied down with a whole team, outsource so you can move quickly and spend more time on the things you’re good at.

That’s all from me for now but before I go, just a quick final word to thank you for stopping by for a read and for your endless support. It means so much to me. I really hope you like the new website! As always, any feedback is most welcome.

I hope to see you back here soon and have a lovely end to the week. xS
